DUBAI - Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdulaziz Al Saud died at dawn on Saturday abroad, the country’s royal court said in a statement carried by state media.
Sultan, who was thought to be aged about 86, had been in the United States for medical treatment since June.
As well as heir to the throne of the Kingdom, he had been defence minister and minister of aviation for about four decades.
“With deep sorrow and sadness the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz mourns the death of his brother and his Crown Prince Sultan bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, who died at dawn this morning Saturday outside the kingdom following an illness,” said the statement carried on state news agency SPA and state television.
Saudi television broke its schedules early on Saturday to broadcast the Holy Quranic verses accompanied by footage of the Kaaba in the holy city of Makkah.
Funeral services will be held in the Saudi capital Riyadh on Tuesday, SPA said.

This 85 year crown prince was in New York Hospital and died. Why do they have to travel to New York to die?
That explains a lot.
Remember King Hussain of Jordan died in US too several years back. He was trying to go back to Jordan piloting his own plane but "some how" died . The crown Prince Hasan was in waiting for 50 years to be King but was shunted aside by US meddling and young Abdullah, son King Hussain with British mother, was proclaimed King. Prince Hasan whose wife was Pakistani was deliberately pushed aside as they say Jordanians did not want to see a "Pakistani" Queen in Jordan. All of these royal intriques are real and reflect the sinister agenda of West coupled with ignorance of the royal clowns.
Abdullah, the current Saudi King is also sick with back surgery and is 86 and may die soon. The next in line is Nayef, 78 who is also corrupt and a playboy and hence better ally of US. Obama,Clinton and gang may be celebrating. They really love these clowns.

This mean a change of heir to throne, now the interior minister Prince Nayef will replace him.
This is same Naif whose wife (Princess Maha al-Sudairi) infamously run the shopping spree in Paris for of £15 million including £60,000 on designer lingerie.

Crown Prince Sultan dies

RIYADH: Crown Prince Sultan, deputy premier and minister of defense and aviation, died on Saturday, the Royal Court said in a statement. He was in his eighties.
Sultan was a central figure in Saudi decision-making since becoming defense minister in 1962.
“With deep sorrow and sadness the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Abdullah mourns the death of his brother and his Crown Prince Sultan ... who died at dawn this morning Saturday outside the Kingdom following an illness,” said the statement carried on Saudi Press Agency (SPA) and state television. Prince Sultan’s health had declined in recent years.
King Abdullah is now expected to call to session the Allegiance Council to appoint the crown prince. Second Deputy Premier and Interior Minister Prince Naif is expected to be named crown prince.
The Allegiance Council was set up in 2006 soon after Abdullah became king, and is tasked with voting to approve the king’s choice of crown prince or nominating its own choice instead.
“The succession will be orderly,” said Asaad Al-Shamlan, a professor of political science in Riyadh. “The point of reference will be the ruling of the Allegiance Council. It seems to me most likely Naif will be chosen. If he becomes crown prince, I don’t expect much immediate change.”
Prince Naif has been interior minister since 1975 and was appointed second deputy premier in 2009, a position usually given to the man considered third in line to rule.
Saudi television broke its schedules early on Saturday to broadcast Qur'anic verses accompanied by footage of the Kaaba in Makkah. Funeral services will be held in Riyadh on Tuesday, SPA said.
