President Asif Ali Zardari on Saturday said that he had always considered Nawaz Sharif an elder brother, but the PML-N chief proved disloyal.

Speaking to reporters at the Governor’s House in Lahore, the president said that he had trusted Nawaz as a sibling, but the latter did not fulfill his responsibilities.

Zardari said that he was powerless since he had handed over all his powers to the Parliament. I am aware that politicians talk of having me hanged, he added.

On Thursday, the president had launched a fiery verbal assault at the Sharif brothers, that has transformed into an ongoing war of words.

“Lahore is PPP’s city. Sharif brothers are refugees here. They are alive in politics only because of me. The power they are enjoying is a gift of the PPP which can send them home any time, but for the politics of reconciliation of the BB Shaheed that it is following,” Zardari had said.

The PPP co-chairman continued his attack on Friday while speaking to party activists at the Governor’s House when he said the Sharif brothers had ‘stiff necks’ and he knew how to humble them.

“I gave concession to the Sharif brothers only to send Gen Musharraf packing,” the president had said.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Saturday responded by saying that he would rather prefer to resign than throw a reception for Zardari.

The rulers have plundered the country with both hands and have hid the loot in Swiss bank accounts, said Shahbaz, as he delivered another fiery speech at a rally in Arifwala.

“With the help of the rental power projects, the President hurled 180 million people of the nation further into darkness,” said Shahbaz. “The courts have also ruled the RPPs as illegal.”

Even during the time of the floods, Zardari had deserted the people and had fled to France, added Shahbaz.

  • Yaar wisay talking of janazas....

Zia's janaza was huge and bhutto's janaza had a handfull of people.

Zia's first few barsi were also pretty big and bhutto's were not nearly even close.

However with passage of time zia's shrunk and bhutto's swelled.

This tells me, zia and everything he stood for might have become popular at that time but were highly unsustainable and bhutto's were quite opposite.

Zia wanted pakistan to invade whole world and becomemthe king with atom bomb and islam and bhutto wanted to empower and emancipate awam. What they did in reality is another issue but this is what people remember them for and this is what bhutto and zia also sold awam. Thier legacy teaches us what is in pakistan's favor.

Your analysis between Bhutto and Zia is very factual, realistic and impartial. Thanx for this wonderful comments.

  • @msyedh

Good analysis of Nawaz Sharif and Gen Zia relationship!!

NS has certainly forgotten favours of his political father who not only made him a leader but also gave a party of Pakistan's founding fathers. Politics is a dirty business; lies, cheating and back-stabbing are essential qualities of our politics and NS knows this art of politics better than anybody else.

As next elections are approaching, both Zardari (Govt) and Sharif family (world's friendliest opposition) are playing noora kushti (fake war of words) to make public fool again.

How can we get rid of such incompetent leaders who have been ruling and plundering our country for the last 65 years? I do not see any politician in Pakistan capable of providing honest and competent leadership to solve problems of ordinary citizens.

  • Sweettruth@

Brother thanx for comments. but i disagree with one thing. Zia gave party to Nawaz Sharif but this party had no connection with Qaid-e-Azam and his party.

This party was made by local martial law administrators on the order of Zia ul Haq, in all over the Pakistan. Then Zia ul Haq appointed all party leadership. After he made this fraud party through his government power, then he gave it Muslim league name. But in reality, it is Zia league.

We should not link this dictator Zai ul Haq party with Qaid-e-Azam and his Muslim league. That will be insult for great Qaid.

  • @msyedh

    You are right!

They (Gen Zia, his illegal army rule and Nawaz Sharif) hijacked real Muslim League of Mr. Jinnah to make public fool. I fully agree with you. It is indeed Zia League. Who is the real heir of Mr. Jinnah's League, the party which fought hard to form separate country for Indian Muslims from British Raj.

There are so many factions of Muslim League in our political system and every Muslim league faction tries to prove they are the real heir of original Muslim league. We don't know who real faction is and who is not.

May be we may require to go to Mr. Jinnah's tomb in Karachi to ask him. However, you are 100% right, current PML-N is not the real Muslim league; I would advise them to change their name to Zia League or PML-Z.

  • Mr.Syed,

Your title reminds me of another political leader , ex-prime minister and ex-president who also dumped his political God-father whom he used to call 'daddy'. Guess the personality ??

Also , correct me that ML was not formed by Zia rather it was junejo after lifting the martial-law. Yes, it was a party incubated in the hatchery of govt offices but atleast don't blame zia for that.

  • Sharif Aadmi@

Bhutto did not need any godfather, He was well educated with lot of qualities in his attractive personality and strong political background. His father was prime minister of

    Junagarh state in india.

Bhutto showed courage and left Ayub when Ayub was in power. Bhutto formed his own political party after he left Ayub. You can not compare Bhutto with other garbage political leader like Nawaz Sharif. who was in politic because of Zia ul Haq and leading that party who was formed and given by Zia ul Haq.

Come on brother,Junejo did not have ability to form party even in one district. That is why, When Zia dismissed Junejo government, Junejo lost that party. After dismissed Junejo government, Zia gave that party to Nawaz Sharif.

When this party was formed, Zia decided who will be president of that fraud Muslim league and prime minister of Pakistan. Junejo was selected by Zia ul Haq. Junejo has nothing to do with that party.

Real Muslim league of Qaid was demolished and dead when there was imposed first martial law. After that all dictators just use Muslim league name for their king parties.

  • msyedh

Didn't Bhutto call Ayub 'DADDY' ? This is a fact not even denied by bhutto family.

"That is why, When Zia dismissed Junejo government, Junejo lost that party

    "

Wasn't Junejo party president till his death in 1993 ???

"Junejo was selected by Zia ul Haq"

Yes , junejo was selected by Zia as per amended consitution by RCO of 85 which was validated by parliament through 8th amendment later on.

Its the same way bhutto was made president in 1971. Please remember, bhutto was never an elected prime minister.
