Deteriorating Sectarian Unrest in Gilgit-Baltistan

  • Recent rise in sectarian violence in Gilgit-Baltistan is an alarming development for the relatively peaceful region of Northern Pakistan.

Our army/ISI under Gen Zia has made serious mistakes in the past to fund jihadis and cultivate a culture of jihad and its roots are now spreading throughout the country. All armed jihadi groups can operate freely throughout the country and current unrest in Gilgit-Baltistan is result of this jihadi mindset which is widening gulf between different sectarin groups.

Serious strategic mistakes of ISI have earned shameful disrepute for ordinary Pakistanis throughout the world and it is high time to stop funding such terror groups.

  • Indeed it is sad and alarming. This area and its inhabitants have historically been very peaceful and kind. It seems that all efforts are being made by few to create anarchy all across Pakistan.

Only stopping funding will not help as these groups will create more chaos. I dont know if constructive engagement is a good idea or complete elimination of such groups could be more effective.
