Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf chairman Imran Khan on Saturday assured the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Punjab of his support in their campaign for a new service structure.
This was stated by YDA Jinnah Hospital President Dr Javaid Aheer who was part of the delegation that called upon the PTI chairman at the party’s Central Media Office at Cavalry Ground. The delegation was led by its President Dr Hamid Butt. Butt briefed Khan on the association’s demand. “Imran Khan supported our stand. He told us he was astonished why the Punjab government wasn’t accepting our rightful demands,” Aheer told The Express Tribune. Khan told the delegation the doctors had a right to protest for their rights. “He told us that if the Punjab government arrested any doctor, the PTI would react strongly,” Aheer said. Dr Mudassir Razzaq Khan, the YDA media secretary, said the meeting with Imran Khan was held in a cordial atmosphere. “He assured us of his full support and cooperation,” he maintained.
Dr Aheer said the YDA hadn’t asked the PTI to lend them any support in their planned sit-in outside the Chief Minister’s Secretariat on November 7. “The sit-in and long march are doctors’ affairs. We don’t want activists of any political party to join us,” he said.
There hasn’t been any contact between the Punjab government and the YDA since Eid. The YDA is scheduled to hold another protest on November 5.

Deputy Prime Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has voiced support for the
doctors’ protests for a revised service structure and blamed the provincial government for strikes at public hospitals.
A delegation of the Young Doctors Association (YDA) Punjab called on the former chief minister on Sunday to brief him about their campaign of protests, said YDA Punjab’s media secretary Dr Muddassir Razzaq Khan.
He said that Elahi had backed the doctors. “He said that if the Punjab government had acted in time to give doctors a proper service structure, the situation would have been different and doctors would never have gone on strike,” Dr Khan said.
He said the YDA was planning to contact the leadership of the Pakistan People’s Party, the Tehreek-i-Insaaf and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz to inform them about their demands before November 7, when the association is planning to hold a sit-in at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat.
Dr Khan said that the YDA had also called on Jamaat-i-Islami leader Liaqat Baloch, who had also extended his support to the association.
The government and doctors’ groups associations are in talks on the service structure. Though agreement has been reached on some issues, the parties still differ on promotions and starting grades for new doctors.

PTI is a party of youth. Therefore it is natural that it supports young doctors. However, it will not support them once these doctors grow old.

In my opinion,Doctors demand for service structure is even more than legitimate &they must b given the credit that they bore the attrocities of govts for so many dacades. The govts must think over their hypocratic behaviour to give fringe benefits to police, army &beaurocrats as they work for it OUT OF WAY.As doctors can,t do that so they r deprived, even most deprived ,although being cream of the society. If the govt ends its dual standards for different departments &Chief Minister comes out of Beaurocrat-dictated policy, the matter can easily be resolved.
In 80% cases,F.A pass policeman who enters as an ASI in grade 14 achieves grade 18 (Sometimes even 20&21)when he gets retirement with too much pay &fringe benifits as compared to other grade govt officers of same BPS.WHY
An intermediate pass nurse gets whole of its training free alongwith handsome stipend &free boarding/lodging from govt &gets grade 17 on the first day of joining, earlier than her fellow student who remains busy in MBBS &finds it two years later.Nurses usually achieve grade 19 &sometimes 20 (Even earlier than doctor age fellows).WHY
All the administrative posts have proper service structure for timely promotions but Doctors,Engineers &College professors r exempted from that.A large no.of these people enter in grade 17 &after 30-36 years of service, get retired in grade 18.WHY
Simply an MA/MSc university lecturer gets grade 18 on the very first day,WHY?
Onother dual standard of govt is that it has not created ANY high post for Doctors. In whole Punjab, there is not a single post of grade 21 or 22 for Doctors (Even only a few posts of BPS 20).Interestingly,this standard is ONLY FOR DOCTORS & no other department in whole govt structure enjoys such discrimination.WHY
These r a few examples.Hypocracy ,dual standars for different departments & exploitation must end from the side of govt.Otherwise all the depressed elements will rise against opression one by one.
Note:Im neither a Doctor nor a Govt.Employee
Idiot columnists &their followers who blindly copy-paste their trash must also highlight these facts instaead of blowing the trumpet of punjab govt for third degree methods.
Instead of blindly writing trash, one should check one's facts first.
It is ridiculous to say that doctors are deprived or discriminated against. On the contrary they get special privileges denied to all other government employees. No government employees are allowed to have two jobs. Doctors in public sector are however allowed to do private work. Other public sector employees working in small towns do not get any monetary benefit, doctors however get handsome small town allowances.
If a police ASI enters service in grade 14 and retires in 17 or 18 after 30 years, how is he better paid than a doctor?
And no, nurses do not start their career in grade 17 nor lecturers start theirs in grade 18.
But notwithstanding all this, the main point of the column that you conveniently chose to ignore is that the columnist is criticizing the thuggish behavior of these 'young doctors' to which their is no justification. These criminal acts deserve the appropriate legal punishment.
The ' young doctors' can not be considered above the law and can not be given the license to beat up their seniors. At least not until the great Imran Khan comes to power.
