I wonder Why All parties except PMLN r agreed on Mushraf's frnd Israt hussain's frnd Israt hussain as PM ...

I understand PTI's Reason becoz Musharaf was Ik's First political Dad ....i also understand abt MQM , pmlq JUIF But why ANP nd PPP ??

  • Wow, what a monologue!

Asked a rhetorical question and answered it himself. Experiencing some kind of mental anguish, eh.

  • Tariq Azeem, Amir Muqam, Shk Waqas Akram and many other, you may fing under thread Who is joining PMLN upcoming days, all are Musharraf friend.

  • Maybe PML N is afraid that Ishrat might make deal with IMF, which might not be consistent with PML plans.

  • Looking at Dr Ishrat Hussains resume, he seems the best choice for caretaker prime minister. As chaudary801 rightly said, MQM would strongly support as they believe in merit.

  • @faheemshah

Please educate me and name three achievements. Please don't mention his position as an achievement.

  • @Ch. Saab

PMLN decided to oppose Dr. Ishar Hussain after Shahbaz Sharif and Ch. Nasar's late night meetings's with Generals. I wonder why this anti-establishment party went to SC on Generals's behalf and why did they let Raymond Davis go?

    :)

  • Thanks Faheem bhai,

I did search and found him highly acclaimed, well-educated and instrumental in his field. Pakistan must be honoured by his guidance and not having there would be a great loss for the country.

  • I wonder why MQM does not support Justice (r) Nasir Aslam Zahid more than anyone else? Or may be MQM is doing muk-muka in the language of Allama Doctor Imran Khan Niazi?

  • PMLN knows there is no match between their Prime Candidate Jt. Nasif Aslam and Dr. Ishrat hussain on merit. So they started propeganda against Dr. Ishrat by associating him with Musharraf.

  • @All

Please educate me and name three achievements of Dr. Ishrat. Please don't mention his position as an achievement.

Isn't he the same one what just last year proposed to sell official residences of government officers, which are limited in number. In his proposal, government housing would be commercialised and sold to private builders, who would construct apartments and flats on the property.

These bankers/accountants have one track mind, that is to mortgage future and make quick bucks.

  • "Please educate me and name three achievements of Dr. Ishrat. Please don't mention his position as an achievement."

So position is not an achievement? Can you nominate any tom, d!ck and harry to lead a world institution for an entire continent? A quick gogal on him revel me the following, and if that does not qualify for achievement, I am not sure what you classify as an accomplished person.

Husain joined the elite Civil Service of Pakistan in 1964 and served in the field and also held mid-level policy making positions in the Finance, Planning and Development departments before moving to Washington in 1979 to join the World Bank as an Economist in West Africa Programs Department. He became the Bank’s Resident Representative to Nigeria in 1983 and led the Bank’s team that assisted Nigeria in formulating its first ever structural Adjustment program in 1986. On his return to headquarters, he headed the Bank’s Debt and International Finance Division and contributed to the development of Bank’s strategy that led to World Bank and International Monetary Fund’s (IMF) participation in the Brady Initiative for Debt Reduction. As Chief Economist for Africa between 1991–94 and later as Chief Economist for East Asia and Pacific Region he guided and supervised the Bank’s analytical work on the countries in these regions. In 1997 he was named the Country Director for Central Asian Republics and managed the World Bank’s relations, programs and policies with these countries. Earlier, he was the director of Poverty and Social Policy Department. He was responsible for the Bank's policies and strategy development in such areas as Poverty Reduction, Gender Relations and Dynamics, NGOs, and Reform within the Public Sector. He was the Chairperson of the Public Sector Group.

"Isn't he the same one what just last year proposed to sell official residences of government officers, which are limited in number."

And your point is?? Only in British colonial countries you find such perks for civil servants.

  • Also, I don't know why someone call him Musharaf's friend? He is a career technocrat who was known in his field before Musharaf picked him. Like many other technocrats he work in Mush's goverment. That does not make him a Musharf's friend.

  • @Dusky

"And your point is?? Only in British colonial countries you find such perks for civil servants."

He is not for taking away the perks from the civil servants. He is just giving control of those prime lands and buildings to private tycoons/land mafia. It is privatization of housing of civil servants to allow tycoons/land mafia to make money.

"So position is not an achievement? "

We all know that "networking/nepotism" is the way positions are obtained in banking industries. You have not shown that he was able to improve anything during his tenure.

Take example of " He became the Bank’s Resident Representative to Nigeria in 1983 and led the Bank’s team that assisted Nigeria in formulating its first ever structural Adjustment program in 1986."

During this time, it is well known high degree of corruption that happened in Nigeria.

Has he published any technical paper in his field??

  • "It is privatization of housing of civil servants to allow tycoons/land mafia to make money."

Again your point is? Mass construction is an expensive business, you don't expect your neighborhood contractor to build such projects. Secondly, those civil servent get an housing allowance so let them handle their own housing. Why tax payers foot bill for the subsidiaries they get. From economical point of view, his suggestion make perfect scenes.

"We all know that "networking/nepotism" is the way positions are obtained in banking industries."

Ok, name me any industry including public service through politics where "networking/nepotism" does not play a role. Why single out bankers only? You think NS would have become leader of PML very first time if he was not known to General Jilani or General Zia?

You have not shown that he was able to improve anything during his tenure."

If he was not able to improve, they would not have kept him their for so long, neither promoted him to lead the continent/region later on.

"During this time, it is well known high degree of corruption that happened in Nigeria."

He was WB Resident Representative to Nigeria, not the PM of Nigeria. WB's representative can not control corruption at ground level, they can give framework for local governments but can not execute. It's like Mahboob-ulhaq formulated five year plan for Northe Korea, but it's the Koreans who execute the plan. Jeezz Sipahi, was not expecting this kinda argument from you...

"Has he published any technical paper in his field?? "

Any paper??? As of now he is co-author of over 16 Books & Monographs and 25 Refereed Journal Articles.

Political differences aside, would be nicer if you would have done a quick google about him before dishing him out.

  • Lets not beat about the bush. The reason is pure and simple. PMLN is a Punjab based party which discriminates against Urdu speaking muhajirs. This is why it is against Ishrat Hussain.

On the other hand, in its bias against Urdu speaking muhajirs, it is instead supporting Nasir Aslam Zahid who is a German.

  • @Dusky

"Again your point is? Mass construction is an expensive business, you don't expect your neighborhood contractor to build such projects. Secondly, those civil servent get an housing allowance so let them handle their own housing."

I question moving away from PMO, which makes most sense to me. Where civil servant gets housing allowance and they handle their own housing. He is proposing to sell prime land / government housing to privately held companies to rent/construct housing. This is how corruption is done and owners like that of Bahria town become tycoons.

"He was WB Resident Representative to Nigeria, not the PM of Nigeria. WB's representative can not control corruption at ground level, they can give framework for local governments but can not execute."

These resident WB reps have great powers in controlling how and where funds are utilized. Was there a positive movement in Nigeria during his time?

Also, can you tell me what was his achievement during his tenure as governor of State Bank?

"Political differences aside, would be nicer if you would have done a quick google about him before dishing him out."

I am politically and ethnically agnostic, so please don't bring ethnicity and political affiliation in the discussion.

Please look over my comments, I only asked questions about him from fellow bloggers about his achievements. Until now, I am still looking. If people can't articulate achievements and still they want to vouch for him as caretaker PM, that is their choice. I thought they are so much in favor of him, they must at least know three achievements. But, I suppose I was expecting too much from this crowd.

As a policy, I do not support anyone until I know achievements of candidates. At least, I know more about some of the other candidates running for care taker position.

  • Why PMLN wants Nasir Aslam Zahid and PPP Doesn't want him as care taker PM

He promoted to Bench member of the Sindh High Court as an Additional Judge in 1980 and in 1983 was made a permanent judge during Zia Regime.

PPP Govt temporarily removed him from the Bench in 1988 and deputed him as the federal law secretary.

He returned to Sind Hight court just before the end of PPP tenor in 1990.

He, for couple of months in 1991, served as a ad-hoc member of supreme court during Nawaz Regime.

In May 1992, He become permanent Chief Justice of Sindh High Court during Nawaz Regime.

In 1994, He was transferred to Federal Shariah court during PPP 2nd Regime.

However later, he is promoted as bench member of supreme court.
