Bilawal leaves Pakistan, not to lead PPP election campaign
ISLAMABAD/LAHORE: Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari will not be leading the party’s election campaign as party officials confirmed his departure for Dubai on Tuesday, days before the party launches its official campaignon April 4.
The news comes amid reports that he left after an argument with his father, President Asif Ali Zardari.
However, Latif Khosa, recently elected secretary general of the PPP, told the Press Trust of India that “Bilawal may not attend election rallies due to security concerns and is likely to address gatherings on telephone or via video-conferencing.”
PPP spokesman Qamar Zaman Kaira too confirmed Bilawal would not partake in rallies because he was facing an extraordinary amount of threats.
According to the report by the Press Trust of India though, the PPP chairman had a quarrel with President Zardari and his sister Faryal Talpur over the party’s stance on several importance issues including militancy, sectarianism and the awarding of party tickets for the upcoming general elections.
Sources told the news agency that Bilawal had an issue in particular with PPP’s weak reaction to the Malala Yousufzai shooting and the bomb attacks on the Shia community in Karachi and Quetta.
In addition, Bilawal is concerned with the PPP’s handling of the ‘youth factor’, keeping in mind that Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaf (PTI) chief Imran Khan’s strong point is his popularity with Pakistan’s youth.
Bilawal was also angered by Talpur’s decision to not hand over party tickets to candidates in Sindh whom he favoured, a source told the Press Trust of India.
“Last month, Bilawal had recommended the names of some 200 PPP workers and asked former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah to give them jobs but Talpur had intervened, causing bad blood between them,” according to the source.
When he discussed the issue with his father, the president allegedly sided with his sister.
“When Zardari told him that he would be handed over the command of the party after he is groomed politically, Bilawal got upset and left for Dubai,” a source said.
Tensions rose so high that reportedly, at one point, Bilawal said: “If I had to vote, even I wouldn’t vote for the PPP.”
The departure of the PPP’s chairman has caused some trouble within the party, which has been counting on him to appeal to voters as a member of the Bhutto progeny. The PPP is to launch its election campaign on April 4 in Garhi Khuda Buksh.
“Bilawal had been projected as the PPP’s star campaigner as the president cannot participate in the campaign due to pressure from the courts,” a PPP leader said.
“Without Bilawal, the PPP cannot touch the emotions of the people, especially the hard core PPP workers,” added the PPP leader, speaking on the condition of anonymity.
Meanwhile, former prime minister Yousuf Raza Gilani tried to downplay Bilawal’s departure for Dubai, saying there were no tensions between Bilawal, his father and his aunt.
“In our families, our children give immense respect to their elders,” Gilani told the news agency.
Hasham Riaz, Bilawal’s chief of staff, said Bilawal had gone to Dubai for “routine business”.
He said the reports of tensions between Bilawal and President Zardari were “mere rumours”. Asked if Bilawal would come back to Pakistan, Riaz said: “Of course.”
Meanwhile, a source told Dawn.com that Bilawal, who turns 25 this September and will be of eligible age to contest elections by the time of the by-elections, has decided not to take part in even the by-polls.

Just a drama to tell the ppp voters that Bilawal want good for them but Faryal is the hurdle... Where was he when his aunt and father were looting the country

There can be arguments on any number of things. But he left the country and then it was leaked to media that Bilawal argued with his dad and aunt and is not happy the way party is governed, the way gov't responded to Malala & Hazara culprits.
It's yet and another attempt by Zardari to project Bilawal. He did this by throwing his sister and himself under the bus for the time being. I won't be surprised if after getting enough media coverage in 72 hours they will call him back and concede to his humanly demands.
I am not sure if there will be any gain out of it but President Saab likes to play games.

Game or no game, I believe Zardari has brought the party to the ground. Its rank and file appear demoralized. They seem to have funny strategy--Yousuf Raza Gilani is to lead the campaign. With Ephedrine and Haj scandals still alive, and Gilani himself disqualified for elections, it will be interesting to see how this plays out in elections.
Bilawal is an unknown potential at the moment. It is to be seen how he performs on the political scene and how well he can energize his followers. If he stays out in this election, it will be a while before he can do another trial run.

Little more than a year ago I heard Zardari saying, , in a news clip, that his daughter Asif(a) Zardari [Bhutto] was going to actively participate in Pakistani politics.
Then the news of her grooming started circulating in the media. If the security concern is paramount for Bilawal, does Pakistani/ Sindhi culture is daring enough that a father would put her daughter on the line while protecting the male progeny? Do female sacrifice buy more vote than a male one in Pakistan.

All is part of a well calculated long term political strategy for 2018.
Javeed Bhai, ab awam Zardari ki chaloon main nahin ayeh
gi. When public went to polls last time they had BB dead body in their mind but now "Zardari ki Makari".Zardari tack ticks may work in Sindh but not in Punjab, Balochistan and KPK.

Bilawal went to Dubai for whatever reason.Who cares?
But I'm amazed at the media "clowns" for making such a big deal out of it.He was the center of most of the TV Talk shows today.
If nothing else, Zardari thought of a good way to bring Bilawal to center-stage.

Maybe Bilawal Zardari has genuine security concerns since he will know too well who the real killer of his mother is :(

Bilawal leaves Pak after tiff with Zardari over PPP affairs
Bilawal Bhutto Zardari has left for Dubai after a tiff with his father, President Asif Ali Zardari, over the affairs of the PPP, leaving the party without its star campaigner for Pakistan's general election. Bilawal, recently named patron-in-chief of the Pakistan People's Party, developed differences with Zardari and his sister, Faryal Talpur, over the party's handling of key issues, including militant violence, sectarian attacks against Shias and the award of party tickets for the polls scheduled for May 11.

Two sources privy to the development told PTI that Bilawal had made it clear to his father that he felt the PPP had not strongly taken up issues like the shooting of teenage rights activist Malala Yusufzai by Taliban fighters last year and three devastating bomb attacks on Shias in Quetta and Karachi that killed nearly 250 people.
Bilawal was also upset with the PPP's handling of issues that affect the youth, especially in the wake of efforts by other parties like Imran Khan's Pakistan Tehrik-e-Insaf to woo the youth ahead of the polls, the sources said.
The 24-year-old nominal chief of the PPP was angered by Faryal Talpur's refusal to award tickets to certain candidates in Sindh province that he had recommended, a source said.
"Last month, Bilawal had recommended the names of some 200 PPP workers and asked former Sindh chief minister Qaim Ali Shah to give them jobs but Talpur had intervened, causing bad blood between them," the source said.
Bilawal discussed these matters with his father and sought authority to take decisions in party matters.
But Zardari sided with his sister, who plays a key role in the PPP's affairs, the source said.
"When Zardari told him that he would be handed over the command of the party after he is groomed politically, Bilawal got upset and left for Dubai," a source said.
Matters got so heated on one occasion that a source quoted Bilawal as saying: "If I had to vote, even I wouldn’t vote for the PPP."

Since when Press Trust of India is a reliable source for Pakistan affairs?

This may just be a hoax similar to Bilawal-Hina Rabbani make-belief story. But if it has a little truth to it, most likely a Bilalwal's Indian buddy from Dubai high school or an Indian girlfriend from UK could be the source of this news. In latter case, Pakistan ISI should already know the truth.
No matter what the truth is what nothing going good in PPP's camp. All other parties are running campaign and PPP is still struggling for candidates for election. PPP is having a very tough time in finding strong candidates in central and north punjab. All electable prefer PML(N) as first, PTI as second and they even prefer PML(Q) over PPP.
