  • Hurriyat leader waves Pakistani flag at Indian Kashmir rally

Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam waved the Pakistani flag on Wednesday to greet Kashmiri separatist Syed Ali Shah Geelani at a rally in Srinagar, Indian media reported.

According to Express News, Kashmiri leaders had organised a rally against the atrocities of the Indian state in Kashmir.

The Times of India reported that Alam also allegedly chanted pro-Pakistani slogans during the rally.

47-year-old Alam is a likely successor to Geelani. He was released from prison after four years on March 7.

India reacted furiously following the show of support for Pakistan at the Srinagar rally.

National Spokesperson Bharatiya Janata Party GVL Narasimha Rao said the act was completely unacceptable.

“We expect the state government of Jammu and Kashmir, headed by Mufti Saeed, to take cognizance of the matter,” Rao added.

Earlier in March, an FIR was registered against Kashmiri leader Asiya Andrabi for unfurling the Pakistani national flag on March 23 in Srinagar. She was booked under the ‘Unlawful Activities Prevention Act’.

The fearless Asiya is the chief of Dukhtaran-e-Millat, a women’s wing associated with the Hurriyat. She allegedly sang the Pakistan national anthem as well after unfurling the flag.

  • 14 injured as clashes erupt in Srinagar over Masarat Alam's arrest

SRINAGAR: At least 14 Kashmiris were injured on Friday as clashes erupted in Srinagar following the arrest of Hurriyat leader Masarat Alam by the Indian police, Express News reported.

Police had arrested Alam in Indian-administered Kashmir on April 17 after he waved Pakistani flags and chanted pro-Pakistan slogans at a rally in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Led by Hurriyat conference leader, Mirwaiz Umar, protests were held in Srinagar today (April 17). The protesters claimed that Alam was illegally arrested.

In order to disperse the protesters during the rally today, Indian police resorted to tear gas shelling.

Alam is expected to be produced before a magistrate today and taken to an interrogation centre.

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) spokesperson Waheed Para slammed allegations that the Indian administered Kashmir government arrested Alam on the Centre’s pressure.

“The action has not been taken due to any pressure. The government has acted as per the procedure. There should be no sensationalism in this. It is being shown that the Jammu and Kashmir police does no work by itself but acts only under pressure from the home ministry,” he said.

Para argued that separatists are also Indians and cannot be treated as Pakistanis.

“Even separatists are citizens of this country. They may have a different ideology but how can they be considered Pakistanis? You can’t fight them as enemies,” he said.

Further, he added at that Masarat and All Parties Hurriyat Conference member Syed Ali Shah Geelani had been in jail for over six years and had not helped Jammu and Kashmir. He also said that the national media must treat separatists as Indians and treat them with respect.

said that PDP came into power because of the people and that should be respected and not questioned.

fighting for space and survival. Have some faith in the authorities and support our initiatives,” he said.

A day after he was placed under house arrest, Alam was booked under the Unlawful Activities Prevention Act and arrested for raising pro-Pakistani slogans and waving the Pakistani flag in Srinagar.

Alam was released in March after several years behind bars, was arrested at his home in the main city of Srinagar, a day after police registered a case against him for “anti-national” activities.

“He (Alam) has been arrested after a case for unlawful activity was registered against him,” K. Rajendra, the state’s director general of police, told AFP.

The case stems from a rally on Wednesday organised to welcome another separatist leader Syed Ali Geelani on his return to Srinagar from New Delhi where he had spent the last three months receiving medical care.

Although the rally passed off peacefully, television images of Alam leading a chorus of his supporters chanting “jeeve jeeve Pakistan (long live Pakistan)” and other slogans against India’s rule of the disputed region triggered widespread condemnation from politicians and the media.

Geelani, another prominent separatist leader, still remains under house arrest. Both the Hurriyat hardliners were slated to hold a rally in Tral.

  • @SD Are you aware that you are hurting feelings Shirazi and many others like him?

  • When Pakistani flag will be raised on every inch of Pakistan?

    Isn't that much more important?

Why instead of raising flag one every inch in Pakistan, Pakistan government and its institutions are getting diverted to Arab Peninsula?

Don't we have sense of priority?

  • Parvez,

Yes I know we have a large resident Indian apologists on PKPolitics.

But Shirazi & Co must not feel dejected and should benefit from Ghar Wapsi scheme as early as possible before it's too late.

  • Curious Ayatullah Bhai,

If you get some time from Irani Ayatullah service we may discuss issues related to Pakistan with you.

  • More music for Shirazi's ears.

    "Curious Ayatullah Bhai,

Thanks for accepting that you don't have answers to my questions.

  • Ayatullah Bhai,

We have answers to all your questions but post them in a relevant thread and follow the forum rules.

  • @SD

This thread is about raising Pakistani flag and all discussion relevant to raising Pakistani flag are relevant and follow forum rules.

My questions are very relevant as to why it is less important to raise flag on every inch of Pakistan.

To me that is more important, because for me Pakistan is the only country where I belong.

Maybe my question is not relevant to you, because some other countries or territories might be more important than Pakistan to you.

PS. I am not "Sign of Allah SWT" (Ayatollah)

  • Curious Bhai,

Please read the title once again. It's about an incident happened inside Indian held Kashmir just a few days ago. On the other hand your questions have no relevance to that incident.

  • @SD

"Hurriyat leader waves Pakistani flag at Indian Kashmir rally"

As I said, for you Pakistani Flag might not be important. But to me the central theme of thread is Pakistani Flag!! This incident happened around Pakistani flag.

    Enough said!!

  • But to me the central theme of thread is Pakistani Flag!

But there appeared to be an attempt to divert it to the Arab Peninsula. Or is it just my imagination, I wonder!!

  • "But to me the central theme of thread is Pakistani Flag!

But there appeared to be an attempt to divert it to the Arab Peninsula. Or is it just my imagination, I wonder!!"

There is no attempt to divert discussion to Arab Peninsula.

Discussion is still around Pakistani flag and it's importance.

The point is being made that certain powers are diverting Pakistani army and it's effort from assuring that Pakistani flag is raised on every inch of Pakistan.

Why instead of raising flag one every inch in Pakistan, Pakistan government and its institutions are getting diverted to Arab Peninsula?

    :-)

    http://www.express.pk/slideshows/347775/

  • What if someone tries to raise flag of India in Pakistan? Will not be acceptable to Pakistanis. Indians also doing the same. Not having big enough heart to take easy.

Both are emotional nations indulging in non-valued rhetoric and keeping poor people poor. Countries which look after their citizens and give equal rights to all dont see such issues nor get bothered about such issues.

  • Bravo! So many indian trolls and apologists coming out of their closets.

    :D
