On Thursday 14 February, President Pervez Musharraf was seen on air delivering a confident message that the General Elections 2008 would be free and fair, notwithstanding the contention of the opposition parties that they would be rigged. The President was equally unequivocal in rejecting the surveys conducted by foreign organizations which saw him and the PML-Q (the party standing firmly in his support) as low on the popularity graph as they had suggested. The unveiled message delivered by him was that the sundry NGO’s and groups that had conducted the polls had been pursuing a negative agenda.
Speaking at the Unity for Elections seminar organized by the Ministry of Broadcasting and Information, the President said “Don’t incite trouble in Pakistan…let the results speak” while reflecting that the opinion poll of the 3000 people could not be taken as an accurate reflection of the opinion of a nation of 170 million people. While urging all to cast their votes in the national interest, the President also warned that there would be “zero tolerance” for agitators and that the patience of the government should not be tested in this regard.
It was clear Musharraf meant what he said, likely confident that some unpublished polls conducted both at the public and private level nationally, presented a different picture to the international IRI and BBC surveys. One such investigation, pertinently conducted by a PPP- aligned businessman during his trip to condole with the Bhutto family in Larkana, had the following National Assembly seat read: PPP 85-95; PML-Q 70-80; PML-N 30-35; MQM 15-20; MMA 15-20; ANP 10-15; PPP-S 01-05; IND 20-25. But, of course, this took into account that the elections would not be entirely above board.
The expectation of the Asif Ali Zaradri led PPP, on garnering the sympathy vote, is around 115-120 seats, the PML-N realistically about 40-45 seats, and the PML-Q between 80-90 seats, with plus or minus 10 percent of these figures found palatable to avoid street agitation. But the issue of Chaudhry Mohammad Iftikhar and his panel’s reinstatement remains outstanding, and until that matter is finally resolved, more than a modicum of unrest is likely to remain no matter what the election results.

Ya Allah ,
Hamay aisay hukmaran naseeb ker jo Mulk kay liyay achay sabit hun.May Pakistan live for ever.
Ameen Dr. Moreover we need to realize that our vote is power.......we all need to come out and vote
Well i guess we all should try to mobilize our families and friends to cast their votes.I know people do not have high hopes from any of the politicians but my answer is that, its not about liking people its about saving Pakistan at the moment. If we wont cast our votes ,they will be casted anyway by unseen hands in favour of those people who are not well wishers of Pakistan. I have made sure by calling everybody in my family personally to please cast vote to save Pakistan. I know there are dangers of violence and blasts but just imagine that if we leave the country in the hands of these terrorist then that means we are letting them rule our HOME. And just keep in mind that There is a fixed date and time of every person's death and nobody can change that. So please do contribute ur role for democracy otherwise this dark night will never finish.

God forbid, if 2morrow there is a vote in UN scurity council for attack against pakistan & china abstains. what wd u then think of china?
Whatever is ur answer apply the anology to 18feb elections. Yes, do come out. The illiterate masses wd definitely be there but we the so-calld educated will not be there. Why just look at the current poll in this regard. there are 12 out of 34 not going to vote. For an eucated one it’s criminal to abstain. “Al Khamoshi neem raza”.
My message is:
“Uth ke ab bazm-e-jehan ka aur hi andaz hai……”
